Our Story
Shifty Critters Homestead began the way many good things do — with a small patch of land, a handful of animals with dysfunctional personalities, and a growing desire to live a little closer to the rhythms God stitched into the world. What started as a simple hope for good food and honest work slowly became a place where stories unfold with consistent regularity, often with a critter or two challenging the natural order.
We’re tucked here in north Alabama, tending a homestead that’s both peaceful and chaotic, in equal measure. One moment we’re gathering eggs or checking on seedlings, and the next we’re mud-wrestling a sheep or dislodging a goat from a feed bucket. Around here, the animals keep us humble, the seasons keep us steady, and the small moments keep us grateful.
Shifty Critters is our way of sharing life: the slow, the simple, the slightly mischievous. We believe in nutrient‑dense food, honest stewardship, and the kind of community that grows when people know where their food comes from and who cared for it. We’re building this homestead with intention, patience, and a whole lot of humor, trusting that good things grow slowly and that the best stories are the ones lived, not rushed.
Whether you’re here for the farm updates, the critter antics, or the journey toward wholesome, local food, we’re glad you’ve found your way to our little corner of the world. Pull up a chair, settle in, and stay awhile — there’s always another story unfolding just beyond the fence line.
